When Black students have at least one Black teacher early on, they are 13% more likely to graduate high school and 19% more likely to go to college compared to their peers at the same school who never had a Black teacher. This isn’t a coincidence: it’s the impact of representation and affirmation in the classroom.
Despite this truth, Black educators make up only 3.8% of California’s teaching force.
